Most of them seem to be convinced it was because of finally getting infected (just scroll around this page for a bunch of examples), and I think they're half right. Late 2022 there was a paper about how the mRNA vaccines caused the body to produce more IgG4 antibodies*, which, simplified, are a sort of "stand down" antibody meant for things like dust and pollen. I think in at least some people the mRNA vaccines appear to work by suppressing symptoms (which also explains Pfizer's 95% effective, in that trial they only tested people who actually showed symptoms first), but actually they allow the virus to run rampant when the person is eventually infected. So the association is with the virus instead of the vaccines, and they assume it would have been worse without when we just really don't know. * https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciimmunol.ade2798

From the abstract
RNA vaccines are efficient preventive measures to combat the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic. High levels of neutralizing SARS-CoV-2 antibodies are an important component of vaccine-induced immunity. Shortly after the initial two mRNA vaccine doses, the immunoglobulin G (IgG) response mainly consists of the proinflammatory subclasses IgG1 and IgG3. Here, we report that several months after the second vaccination, SARS-CoV-2–specific antibodies were increasingly composed of noninflammatory IgG4, which were further boosted by a third mRNA vaccination and/or SARS-CoV-2 variant breakthrough infections. IgG4 antibodies among all spike-specific IgG antibodies rose, on average, from 0.04% shortly after the second vaccination to 19.27% late after the third vaccination. This induction of IgG4 antibodies was not observed after homologous or heterologous SARS-CoV-2 vaccination with adenoviral vectors. Single-cell sequencing and flow cytometry revealed substantial frequencies of IgG4-switched B cells within the spike-binding memory B cell population [median of 14.4%; interquartile range (IQR) of 6.7 to 18.1%] compared with the overall memory B cell repertoire (median of 1.3%; IQR of 0.9 to 2.2%) after three immunizations. This class switch was associated with a reduced capacity of the spike-specific antibodies to mediate antibody-dependent cellular phagocytosis and complement deposition. Because Fc-mediated effector functions are critical for antiviral immunity, these findings may have consequences for the choice and timing of vaccination regimens using mRNA vaccines, including future booster immunizations against SARS-CoV-2.

Didn't know that. It does seem in this case, they are just reporting on the studies as far as I can see. https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciimmunol.ade2798 Continued boosters have marginal benefits if any. Some suggestions already they can be harmful. It all really depends on your age, risk factors, gender, and infection history. The myocarditis rates represent fairly serious cases that the effect was pronounced. It’s clearly happening on a spectrum. The can induce myocarditis in mice using the mRNA vaccine. We also have the CDC alert just today. Repeated vaccination is likely not going to be a scientifically justified strategy. Your death rate is absurd. It’s not 1% for most of the population. It’s basically ZERO for under 18 and at most 0.1% until you reach 40s.
That’s what I thought too, until a friend sent me the paper “Class switch towards non-inflammatory, spike-specific IgG4 antibodies after repeated SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccination” published a few weeks ago: https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciimmunol.ade2798 From what I can understand, it seems mRNA vaccines can cause a non-inflammatory response to actual infection that prolongs the disease. I’m supportive of vaccination, but that doesn’t mean side effects can’t happen especially with new technology.
Academic research like https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciimmunol.ade2798 and https://www.mdpi.com/2414-6366/7/8/196 will finally make it into the mainstream and people on the left will begin to acknowledge that there are nontrivial risks associated with the mRNA vaccines. Trump will continue to defend operation warp speed, and more conservatives will defect to DeSantis.
> The question would be if vaccine followed by covid infection produced more or less spike proteins (and overall health impact) than no vaccine followed by covid infection. The answer is "most likely more" given the IgG4 class switch. ( https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciimmunol.ade2798 ) This is a "stand down" class for allergens, so your body doesn't overreact.
> Class switch toward noninflammatory, spike-specific IgG4 antibodies after repeated SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccination https://www.science.org/doi/full/10.1126/sciimmunol.ade2798 This one was posted here at least once: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34147802 One-sentence summary: IgG4 suppresses the immune response, stopping the body from fighting back, so you don't have allergic reactions to things like pollen and dust.
